2005 Glaetzer Wallace Shiraz Grenache, Barossa ValleyGlaetzer Wines was established in 1995 to create limited quantities of benchmark reds, which reflect the quality and diversity of the Barossa Valley. The Glaetzer family have been in the Barossa Valley since 1888. Colin and Ben Glaetzer have a shared philosophy. Both firmly believe that great wines are made in the vineyard. Their belief in “terroir” and an understanding of the ancient dry-grown vineyards in the renowned Ebenezer district of the Barossa is evident. Exceptional fruit from a loyal group of third and fourth generation Barossa grape growers is the backbone of Glaetzer wines. With minimal intervention, Colin and Ben make the unique, elegant wines which are regarded as classics and unmistakably Barossa Valley. 2005 Glaetzer Wallace is a wine greater than the sum of its parts - a fusion of Shiraz and Grenache, which is a typical, traditional blend in the Barossa Valley. Parcels of premium fruit are picked at full ripeness for vibrant colour, an abundance of juicy, berry flavours and spice. The wine also shows the elegance and finesse which underpins the Glaetzer style. Bright red purple in colour. Grenache once again provides an intense strawberry lift with touches of cherry, minerals and spice. The Shiraz component provides structure to the wine and tightens the confectionary notes of the Grenache. Overall a pure, vibrant blend displaying freshness and animation. The 2005 Glaetzer Wallace has more vibrant fruit than the 2004 - a reflection of the higher levels of aromatics from the 2005 vintage. The Wallace is superb drinking now, and will reward careful cellaring for upto 3 years. Colin's wife Judith often finds she’s out voted in her male-dominated family (with Colin and her three sons) so she's redressing the balance - Wallace is named after her side of the family!
