Although this family winery was established in 1995, philosophically, and by heritage, Glaetzer is Barossa down to its boot-straps. A Roseworthy-trained father and son team, Colin and Ben Glaetzer, makes the wines. Colin is the man behind the spectacularly successful Barossa Valley Estates E&E Black Pepper Shiraz.

"Glaetzer Shiraz – first vintage 1996 – epitomises the strong sense of place emerging in the Barossa. This is a wine that goes further than expressing Barossa floor Shiraz. The fruit is sourced entirely from low-yielding unirrigated vines (mostly around 60 and 80 years old) around the village of Ebenezer. Here, soils are sandy clay loams and the climate is distinctively hotter and drier than Barossa south. Glaetzer believes the Shiraz fruit in Ebenezer is softer and rounder.….Although only four vintages have been released, Glaetzer Shiraz already shows strong regional provenance with all the class one would expect from a top Barossa Shiraz….”

1996 Malbec Cabernet
Deep crimson. Choc-cassis/meaty/herb garden/liquorice aromas. Palate is silky and plump with plenty of fruit-sweetness, chocolaty tannins and well-seasoned malty oak. Finishes long.

1997 Cabernet Malbec
Deep crimson. Developed herbal/earthy, blueberry aromas. Palate has earthy chocolate flavours. Fine slightly grippy tannins, finishing tight.

1996 Glaetzer Shiraz
Deep crimson. Intense plum/chocolate/tropical/malt aromas. Classic, developed Barossa choclate/mocha fruit, fine lacy tannins, some underlying cedar and excellent flavour length.

Deep crimson. Intense complex liquorice/leafy/chocolate/ fruit. Well concentrated wine with plenty of liquorice/cedary/mulberry fruit, fine long grainy tannins, finishing fruit-sweet. Very successful for vintage.

Deep crimson. Intense. Plum/smoky bacon/meaty/game aromas and flavours with some tropical oak nuances. Rich, supple, classically proportioned palate with lovely fine grainy tannins, plenty of fruit-sweetness and length.

Deep crimson. Dark chocolate/mocha/plummy/mulberry aromas. Lovely chocolate/mocha/rich plum/spice flavours, fine ripe tannins which build up firm subtle oak and plenty of flavour length.
