Glaetzer Wines - 5 stars

Colin and son Ben Glaetzer  are almost as well known in South Australia wine circles as Wolf Blass winemaker John Glaetzer, Colin's twin brother.  Glaetzer Wines purchases its grapes form third and fourth-generation Barossa Valley growers and makes an array of traditional Barossa styles....the Shiraz comes from predominantly from vines that are 80+ years old.

Amon-Ra Unfiltered Shiraz 2004, Barossa Valley. Glorious purple-red; proclaims its old vine origins from the word go, and carries its alcohol.  A rich, sumptuous cascade of blackberry, plum, chocolate and quality oak. Rating: 95 drink 2024

Godolphin Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2004, Barossa Valley. Delicious wine; supple and luxuriant blackcurrant, cassis and quality oak all intermingle, the oak perfectly controlled, the tannins fine and long. Rating: 95 drink 2015

Glaetzer Shiraz 2004, Barossa Valley.Deep but bright purple-hued; a luscious array of succulent, perfectly ripened, black fruits; excellent balance and length; nuanced tannins and oak.  From 80-year-old vines in the Ebenezer region. Rating: 96 drink 2019

Glaetzer Bishop Shiraz 2004, Barossa Valley. Again, luscious and rich with cascades of black fruits; perhaps not with quite the same finesse as the Glaetzer Shiraz; good tannin and oak. Rating: 95 drink 2017

Glaetzer Wallace Shiraz Grenache 2004, Barossa Valley. A well-structured blend without the weakness of some; blackberry, plum, cherry and spice all intermingle on the medium-bodies palate; fine, ripe tannins; has absorbed all the French and American oak in which it was matured. Rating: 93 drink 2012
